I also remember thinking that in 2012 I'd turn 50 and O. M. G. I'd probably be headed to the nursing home. Or in an alternate vision I'd be a lottery winner.
You know what?
It's 2012.
I've got about three more days of being a youthful 49 and then I'll be an even younger 50.

And that right there is my new motto.
Hmm, back in 1985 I was 38. On the off chance that I was grown up at 50 I have done some backsliding since then......and I still haven't won the lottery.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday. The 50's are a great time (and I'm not talking about the 1950s, though they were pretty good too).
Well... I turned 40 in 1985, 50 in 1995 (I have animmediate grasp o' the obvious). I'm somewhat sad to report that it's ALL been downhill since '95, but I may be the exception to the rule. I hope ya have better luck, Staci.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Birthday! Sometimes I start thinking about how old I am and I'm horrified. So then I start thinking how important it is to make the next years really special. Don't waste your time - make the most of it.
ReplyDeleteI just can't believe it...my friend, 50 yrs young! Hope you get another 50. :)
ReplyDeleteStaci, I know exactly what you're talking about. I remember as a young child the Walter Cronkite show on Saturday mornings, called "2000," or something like that.
ReplyDeleteI remember thinking, "In the year 2000, I'll be 41. That's older than my Daddy, so I'll probably die before that." Seriously, I did think those thoughts. I could not even wrap my childish brain around what it would be like to be 40+...and I honestly thought about it a lot.
Daddy once told me that it didn't bother him much when he turned 50...or even 60. But, when he hit 70 it kinda set off some alarm bells...it was a long conversation we had.
But, as for me...none of the milestones have yet to give me any bother.
Heck, I'll be 39 next September 5, just like I have been for the last 13 years!
Milestones don't bother me...
Staci, Happy belated birthday. Turning 50 is definitely a milestone. I had a friend who, when people lamented their birthday, always said "consider the alternative."
ReplyDeleteMy son turned 50 last September and I'm 72 now. That doesn't necessarily give me the right to give advice but I'll do it anyway. Here it is: The next 20 years will go by really, really, fast. Carpe Diem.
I remember turning 50 myself. It seems like it was last Wednesday.
